and educational resources
ENSAS provides its community with learning spaces, study rooms and experimental workshops, which it also opens to the outside public as part of its policy of spreading architectural culture and partnerships.
THE GARAGE AND THE FACTORY BY MARC MIMRAM
A former car garage transformed in the 1980s by Guy CLAPOT and Yves MORETTI, Le Garage has been restored to the style of its construction in the 1930s. Thus, it has been renovated but its volumes have been little changed, with the exception of the fitting out of a library on two levels. Around the library, the building offers several functionalities: workshops and classrooms, administration offices, educational facilities (Photo Laboratory, Digital Fabrication Workshop, computer room, etc.), but also the Light - Mechanical Sun Laboratory.
The La Fabrique building makes the most of the regulatory templates. The geometries are based on the alignments, the maintenance of the 12-metre and 18-metre templates, the constructible thickness within the 20-metre width, and the recommended recessed attics. The architect Marc MIMRAM thus created three superimposed buildings, each with two floors, housing teaching rooms, behind a metal mesh that filters the light and reveals the building’s load-bearing structure. These three boxes rest on a glazed base, deliberately open to the city, with an exhibition space. In the basement, two amphitheatres with 120 and 250 seats further increase the study space.
The two buildings are linked by a glazed walkway, the underside of which is covered with a work by Pascal DOMBIS and Gil PERCAL. Produced as part of the 1% artistic contribution, it is made up of large modules of screen-printed and enamelled glass panels, and is visible to all from the public space. This work is composed of a proliferation of hundreds of thousands of curved lines and uses colour in a random manner.
A LARGE-SCALE PROJECT
Designed by the architect-engineer Marc MIMRAM, the Ministry of Culture’s real estate project for ENSAS, consisting of two buildings - Le Garage and La Fabrique - was fully delivered in 2016. It took twelve years to complete this project. A decade during which the needs and functionalities, but also the tools of the architect and the delegated project manager, Oppic, have evolved. With its counterpart, La Fabrique, Le Garage offers the 1,000 people who make up ENSAS a surface area of almost 8,000 square metres for studies, research, professionalization and internationalization.
Project owner ministère de la Culture et de la Communication, Direction générale des patrimoines.
Contracting authority OPPIC, Opérateur du Patrimoine et des Projets Immobiliers de la Culture.
